Glad Hand Lock, Keyed Alike
-
Description
Glad hand locks help prevent unauthorized or accidental movement of a semi trailer. They secure the trailer’s emergency/supply air connection, called a “glad hand,” blocking a tractor’s air hose from connecting normally to release the trailer’s spring brakes. The difference is how the keys work: Type: Keyed alike–How it works: One matching key opens multiple locks in the same keyed group. Practical benefit: Simplifies key management when authorized staff need access to several trailers. Type: Keyed differently–How it works: Each lock has its own matching key. Practical benefit: Allows access to be controlled separately for individual trailers. Both options provide the same basic locking function; the choice depends on how you want to manage access. They are important because they help deter trailer theft and unwanted hookups and help keep a parked trailer from being moved unintentionally during loading, unloading, or maintenance. They add a layer of security and movement control, but should be used alongside the operation’s other trailer securement procedures. The Gladhand lock prevents unauthorized or unintentional movement of a truck trailer by sealing the air intake valve of the trailer’s emergency brake system.
